Before buying any imported EV in Kuwait: understand customs and registration, confirm insurance accepts it, know what an independent inspection must check, and where to source genuine adapters. This guide covers the essentials for every import.

  • 1Customs & registration: ensure the car meets Kuwait General Traffic Department requirements and the paperwork (VIN/origin) is clean.
  • 2Insurance: call your insurer before buying — some are wary of imports or charge more; confirm comprehensive battery coverage.
  • 3Pre-purchase inspection must cover: port type, battery health/degradation, service history, accidents/repaint, software version & region, and that the AC cools efficiently (Kuwait hits 50°C).
  • 4Adapters: buy genuine adapters from trusted sources (NACS-to-CCS2 / NACS-to-Type 2 for US Tesla); avoid cheap no-name adapters, especially for high-power DC.
  • 5Actually test fast charging on a CCS2 station (EnerTech / Tesla Supercharger / Oula) before closing the deal.

  • Discovering port incompatibility after registration and payment.
  • Insurance refusal or an unexpectedly high premium.
  • Weak AC performance and higher range loss in Kuwait heat (10–25% range drop).
  • Difficulty finding parts or a specialist shop for less common brands.
