Nissan reclaimed Canada's most affordable electric vehicle title in September 2026 with the introduction of the new 2027 Leaf S, positioned at CA$34,998 manufacturer's suggested retail price—selling for CA$37,966 all-in. This pricing undercuts the Kia EV3 Light by approximately CA$2,000, reversing a market position that Kia held for only weeks.
The entry-level Leaf S employs a 53 kWh battery paired with a single electric motor producing 174 horsepower, delivering up to 341 km of driving range. Premium variants (S+ and above) feature a larger 75 kWh battery with a 214-horsepower motor capable of 488 km of range. Both configurations utilize the NACS charging standard, with DC fast charging enabling 10% to 80% replenishment in approximately 35 minutes.
Canadian buyers benefit from eligibility under the Electric Vehicle Affordability Program, which can reduce the effective purchase price below CA$30,000. Nissan Canada president Steve Rhind emphasized that this new trim level represents the lowest-cost entry into EV ownership available to Canadian consumers.
The EV3 Light retains competitive positioning with its 58.3 kWh battery offering 356 km of range, available with front-wheel-drive only. Both vehicles feature dual 12.3-inch digital displays with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability as standard equipment.
