Tesla launches quarter-end inventory promotions in China amid domestic sales pressure
Tesla announced limited-time cash incentives on locally produced Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in China through September 30, 2026. The promotions include reductions of up to 10,000 yuan on Model Y and 5,000 yuan on Model 3, alongside insurance subsidies, paint benefits, and interest-free financing options.
Tesla announced on September 7, 2026, a limited-time promotional campaign on locally produced inventory vehicles in China, offering cash incentives during the final weeks of the third quarter. All Model Y inventory variants qualify for a 10,000 yuan reduction in the final payment, while all Model 3 inventory variants receive a 5,000 yuan reduction for customers who order and take delivery by September 30.
The promotions extend beyond cash incentives to include an 8,000 yuan paint option benefit for selected Model 3 variants and Model Y configurations. Selected Model 3 trims also qualify for an 8,000 yuan insurance subsidy applied toward the final vehicle payment. Tesla offers flexible financing solutions including interest-free loans of up to five years for non-Performance Model 3 variants, with down payments starting at 79,900 yuan. Additional financing options include rates as low as 0.98 percent annualized with comparable down payments.
The campaign comes as Tesla faces mounting headwinds in China's domestic market. August 2026 wholesale sales recorded only a 3.57 percent year-over-year increase, while declining 7.92 percent from July and ending three consecutive months of sequential growth. Wholesale figures include both China-based deliveries and exports from Shanghai, underscoring Tesla's growing reliance on international demand to sustain overall sales growth.
Tesla China's retail sales in July reached 27,249 vehicles, representing a 32.91 percent year-over-year decline. The Shanghai facility exported a record 66,330 vehicles that same month, illustrating the divergence between domestic demand weakness and export strength as the company navigates competitive pressures in the Chinese EV market.
