Volkswagen ID. Buzz Achieves Guinness World Record Across 92 Countries
Volkswagen's ID. Buzz Pro electric van achieved a Guinness World Record for most countries visited in a continuous battery-powered journey, completing 99,767 kilometres across 92 countries over 445 days. The vehicle finished without technical failures, with its battery retaining 95.75% state of health per independent certification.
The ID. Buzz Pro Long Wheelbase covered 99,767 kilometres across 92 countries spanning six continents including the United States, Africa, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Australia and China. The 445-day expedition traversed urban areas, deserts and mountain regions, requiring more than 300 charging cycles throughout the journey.
Driver Rainer Zietlow completed the expedition without any technical failures. Independent certification body TÜV Nord inspected the vehicle's high-voltage battery upon journey completion, confirming retention of 95.75% state of health. Zietlow received the official Guinness World Records certificate from representative Lena Kuhlmann at IAA Transportation 2026.
The vehicle features an 86 kWh battery delivering up to 498 kilometres range under WLTP standards. Battery charging from 10% to 80% capacity takes under 30 minutes using 200 kW DC fast-charging capability. Zietlow identified the expedition as his largest undertaking across a 20-year career in extended-range EV travel.
