CairoAqaba (Jordan)

The only realistic way out of Egypt in an EV: Cairo to Nuweiba by road, then the ferry to Aqaba. From there the Aqaba → Amman corridor takes over.

The corridor

  1. Cairo

    0 km

Fully charged, and planned as a day rather than a couple of hours. Almost the entire Egyptian leg has no known fast charging.

  2. Ahmed Hamdi Tunnel

    130 km

The Suez Canal crossing and the gateway into Sinai. Have the car's papers ready — checkpoints are heavier on this road than elsewhere.

  3. Nakhl (central Sinai)

    290 km

The midpoint of the desert crossing through Sinai. No charging, and we would not pass here on less than 50% battery.

  4. Nuweiba — ferry port

    470 km

The departure point. The Aqaba ferry carries vehicles, and the paperwork (customs, a temporary export for the car, Jordanian insurance) takes longer than the crossing itself. Check the operator's sailings before you leave Cairo — the schedule moves.

  5. Aqaba (Jordan)

    470 km

Arrival after the crossing. From here you are into Jordanian coverage, and our Aqaba → Amman corridor has stops we have actually verified.

The distance given is road only (Cairo → Nuweiba). The ferry counts as time, not kilometres, and your car crosses with you.
We know of no public charger on the inland Sinai road. In practice this is a drive for a car with 450 km or more of summer range, or an overnight charge at Ras Sedr or Nuweiba.
After Aqaba: see our Aqaba → Amman corridor — its coverage is far better documented than the Egyptian side.
Verify before you travel — corridor coverage is not guaranteed

Estimates only: we always keep a 12% reserve and cap charging at 90% (it slows sharply above that). Real range varies with wind, load and traffic — confirm every charger before departure.
